Tobacco imposes a colossal burden of disease and death leading to catastrophic health, social, economic and environmental effects. The health burden of tobacco consumption is disproportionately high in developing countries like India where tobacco use has devastating consequences particularly among the poor. These impact national and global efforts to achieve goals which envision a more equitable, healthy and sustainable world.
