  • HFM October – December 2014: Emerging Challenges on MDGs: Setting Sustainable Health Goals for 2030

    Theme – Health Promotion

The world is moving though a defining period of transition from achieving a set of development goals for 2015 and setting up of new goals to be met by 2030. The Millennium Declaration 2000 and the set of goals called Millennium Development Goals set as a sequel have succeeded in catching the imagination and commitment of Governments in a remarkable way. Even though the MDGs were not set though a process of intergovernmental negotiations, they have been woven into the development plans of many countries and received political commitment for their fulfilment within the target year 2015. Eradication of extreme poverty and hunger, improving maternal and child health, and combating communicable diseases like HIV/AIDS,TB and Malaria have received political support and financial commitment in an unprecedented way in the last 15 years in many developing countries.
